For those planning to mark their calendars, the date to look out for that Tesla has decided on is 20 July 2023, which falls on a Thursday in about two weeks from now. According to the invite that was sent to us, the launch will see the company share its “Masterplan” for Malaysia, as well as showcase how its mission and electric vehicles can help create a sustainable future. As expected, the automaker did not disclose which of its electric vehicles (EVs) will be debuting in the country, though the teaser image provided does clearly show the front profile of its Tesla Model Y SUV. And should the local branch follow in the same footsteps as its Thailand and Singapore counterparts, then it’s very likely that Malaysia might be getting the 4-door sedan EV as well. Whether or not this will actually be the case, we will only find out when the local launch happens. But unlike its counterpart in the US which uses the company’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) plug, it is very likely for the network to rely on the Combined Charging System (CCS) connector instead. This is due to the fact that the latter is more commonly found in the Asian regions when compared to the former. On that note, Tesla Superchargers available in both Thailand and Singapore are indeed using the CCS standard, so it would only make sense for the potential implementation in Malaysia to also follow this.
