The pilot is currently running in Kajang, Semenyih, Bangi, and Serdang, with more locations coming soon. Users only need to go to Setel’s app or website and tap on “Recycle used cooking oil”, then fill out the form for a collection request in one of the areas where the feature is available. Setel is partnering with BioLestari Energy to recycle your used cooking oil. After being collected, the oil will be taken to a processing facility to separate out any impurities, such as water content and food leftovers, before it is converted into environmentally friendly biofuel. After you submit a collection request, a licensed collector will contact you to schedule a date and time and to confirm the location for the pickup. Setel says that the collector will contact you within four working days after the request. As for how much you will get, the collector will pay you in cash based on the latest market rate as well as the weight of the used cooking oil. Regardless of the type of oil collected, such as vegetable or olive oil, the rate will remain the same. For your first collection request, Setel will also provide you with a free jerrycan container for storing your used cooking oil. That being said, you can pass the cooking oil in any suitable container if you wish, although you should sieve the oil before collection. Additionally, the first 200 customers to make a request will receive RM10 in Setel credits, although this offer is only valid until 31 March 2023. On top of that, you need to sell a minimum of 5KG of used cooking oil to be eligible for the extra credits. (Source: Setel)
