In support pages titled “How many displays can be connected to Mac Studio” and “How many displays can be connected to Mac Pro,” Apple has explained the different combinations of displays that users can add to their setup.

Eight 4K Displays supported now

Mac Studio 2023 with the M2 Ultra chip supports up to eight external displays when connected together. You can connect displays up to 8K resolution, and the refresh rate can be up to 240Hz for each external display. The machine has two port groups – two Thunderbolt ports on the front and the HDMI port on the back and four Thunderbolt ports on the back. Similarly, Mac Pro 2023 with the M2 Ultra chip can also support up to eight external displays simultaneously. Each display can have a resolution of up to 8K and a refresh rate of up to 240Hz. The newly released Mac Pro is a notch above Mac Studio in terms of ports offered. The machine has two port groups: Port group 1: Four Thunderbolt ports on the back and the first HDMI port on the back Port group 2: Last two Thunderbolt ports on the back, the second HDMI port on the back, and the two Thunderbolt ports on the top of the tower enclosure or front of the rack enclosure. Compared to the 2022 Mac Studio, it featured the ability to support up to five external displays. Therefore, the new machine with support for up to eight 8K displays is quite an upgrade. In addition to supporting external displays, Apple also published support pages for compatible PCIe cards for Mac Pro 2023. One thing that stands out in this year’s Mac Pro is the fact that it does not support additional graphics processors such as PCIe graphics cards or MPX modules. This was not the case with Intel-based Mac Pro. Apple limits users from installing additional graphics cards due to the unified architecture of the M2 Ultra chip. The new Mac Pro was announced at a hefty price of $6,999, whereas Mac Studio with the M2 Ultra chip starts at $4,000. Both Mac devices are now available to order. You can also explore:
